Bonnie Compton Hanson

A former editor of Scripture Press, Bonnie also ministered for several years as curriculum writer and product designer with WordAction, Standard Publishing, David C. Cook, Union Gospel Press, and other publishers.  In addition, she served as editorial assistant with Christian Parent, as contributing editor of Trails ‘N’ Treasures, artist for Kid’s Corner, cartoonist for California Southern Baptist, and editor of the Write On! newsletter.

Education:

A double art major at the University of Kentucky, Bonnie served as editor of two literary magazines on campus. Graduate studies in Christian Education, Education, English, Bible, and Business Administration followed at Wheaton (Ill.) Graduate School, San Diego State University, University of San Diego, Pepperdine University, and Harvest Bible University, (LA). She has a Master’s of Ministry in Christian Communication. Formerly on the staff at Harvest Bible University and Concordia University, Irvine, she currently volunteers at her local preschool and elementary school.

Her Books :

Among the over 30 books she has authored or co-authored so far are -- (for adults) : Making the Most of Your Golden Years; Good Things Happen When Women Care Guidebook; Christianity Through the Ages: A Church History Correspondence Course; Mothers' Meditations; and Anytime Prayers for Everyday People. Angels Among Us does not yet have a publishing date. Her adult books include Songs for a Mockingbird, an award-winning suspense novel about cults, and Rinse Cycle Rejoicing!—a humorous book about housework. Her new biblical novel, Sebiya, the Shepherd Princess, about the heroine of the Song of Solomon, is now out with Shadows of Summer due out later this year.  Books for church leaders include the Babytalk Cradle Roll Course; Celebrate the Bible for Kindergartners; Bible Learning Centers for Kindergartners; Winkie Bear Preschool Program Guidebook, Puppets, Flannelgraphs and Stories; Pencil Fun Books; plus Favorite Bible Women for Grades 5 & 6 and Favorite Bible Women for Grades 3 & 4 (not out yet).  For children, they include Hattie’s Cry for Help and Hattie's Surprising Discovery (Finalist for a Gold Medallion Book Award), her popular seven-book Ponytail Girls series for girls 8-14 (interactive novels), and the new God's Crayon Box picture book for ages 3-8.  An exciting new girls’ book, Holly Jean and the Secret of Razorback Ridge, is now out, along with a sequel, Holly Jean and the Box in Granny's Attic.

Speaking and Teaching:

A former school teacher, missionary in Australia, and accountant with an investment firm, Bonnie is an advisor to the Orange County (CA) Christian Writers Fellowship Board. She helps lead writing conferences and Write Your Book Workshops; speaks to MOPS, seniors’ and women’s groups; teaches Bible classes; mentors writers; and does freelance critiquing and editing.  A CLASS graduate, she is a member of the National Writers Association; American Christian Fiction Writers; The Writers View; San Diego Christian Writers Guild; the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, and the Christian PEN.  A pastor’s wife, she has also been awarded the official honorary title of Kentucky Colonel for her writing and other accomplishments.
